Perhaps our move has been no different from any other long distance move in terms of the amount of work involved. But, with our having lived in the house for 25 years and Sheila’s family for 23 years before that, the amount of accumulated stuff, with all the emotions attached, has made it a very strenuous and, at times, emotional affair.
But, there have been very positive aspects to the move and a huge one has been the help that people have given us. Here is a brief, and woefully incomplete, record of some of the kind assistance.
Cleaning cupboards and appliances.

Carrying the heavy stuff

Bringing food (several people) Vaccuming

Taking stuff apart

Thank you, everyone (including those for whom we didn’t have photos)!

How wonderful to have all this help. It certainly eases the trauma. I’m glad you are able to take your bonsai trees with you.
So, your house is empty – another milestone. We pray for safe travels as you cart your belongings across Canada. Do you feel a tiny kinship with the early pioneers, even if you are going in the opposite direction?

I suppose we do a little bit. At least it does make us think what it must have been like for those who emigrated to Canada or set out across country in a wagon, possibly never to see their homeland again. In our case, we are pulling up deep roots and moving a long ways but, on the other hand, we already have one son in Ontario and have met many of our neighbours there over several visits. Also, it will be relatively easy for us to fly back to BC for a visit and hope that friends and family in BC will be able to fly to see us (hint, hint!)
